Differences between refurbished and used computers
- Differences between refurbished and used computers
If you want to buy a laptop or computer, but your budget cannot cover the price of a brand new machine, covering the specs you want, you will most likely come across offers of refurbished or used computers.
Then the question arises: What exactly is the difference between used and refurbished computers and does it matter at all to the buyer?
We will answer you briefly that, yes, there is a significant difference and it is of great importance.
But here are the differences.
Refurbished Computers
Refurbished computers can be defined as machines that have already been used and then restored to their original working condition, and some of them are even upgraded with newer and more powerful hardware.
To be called "refurbished", a computer or laptop must be given the green light as a result of passing a series of diagnostic tests.
Also, buying refurbished computers is usually risk-free, as this type of equipment is offered by certified companies whose main activity is refurbishment, repair and maintenance. For this reason, the machines are always offered with a warranty.
Generally speaking, refurbished computers and laptops are used devices that, after professional refurbishment, are ready to re-enter the market under "As New."
Used Computers
A used computer is just that: a used computer that is resold.
This means that the quality as well as the remaining life of the computer are very often in question. Of course, these machines have not passed any tests, nor are they offered with any warranty. You must rely entirely on the word of the seller. Interestingly, in many cases, these computers and laptops are not the cheapest option.
Usually "used" means still functioning. These items almost always have cosmetic problems, low or non-working batteries (for laptops), uncleaned chassis, and the possibility of hardware problems.
Because there is no standard for used computers, it is almost never clear in what condition you are buying the device.
Refurbished or Used
In most cases, because they are more reliable and for other objective reasons, refurbished computers cost a little more than used ones. But both are cheaper than buying a new computer or laptop.
Refurbished computers and laptops must meet certain standards, undergo diagnostics, have defective parts replaced, and generally be in a condition to function as new.
Companies specializing in the refurbishment of IT equipment always offer a warranty on the equipment they provide.
But the most important advantage of refurbished computers, compared to used and new ones, is the excellent value for money.
