Interview with Atanas Bozhilov
- Interview with Atanas Bozhilov
One of the biggest stars of the international martial arts gala SENSHI is undoubtedly the Bulgarian kickboxer Atanas Bozhilov. See what he told itad.bg about himself.
You’ve been very successful in your career. Can you tell us more about your sports journey?
At the age of 8, I started training karate. I became inspired after watching movies with Jean-Claude Van Damme and Jackie Chan. Then I played football and boxing until I finally settled on kickboxing. I realized that this is my sport, and I did my best to reach the level I am at now.
Can you tell us a little more about your training program?
I train twice a day, every day. I rely on diverse workouts and sparring sessions. I also follow a nutritional regimen.
You’ve faced many opponents, each with a different style. Do you adapt easily?
Anything is possible with good preparation. I study my opponents and plan my tactics in advance. I try to neutralize their strengths.
What difficulties do you face in sports?
The biggest difficulty is the lack of funding and support from the state. Thanks to my sponsor, itad.bg, I can focus on training without thinking about the financial part. It's good to know that someone in Bulgaria cares about sports.
Do you feel the weight of the audience's expectations?
People know me now and expect me to perform better each time. The pressure is greater, but I try to stay in shape and perform flawlessly every time.
Who do you dedicate your victories to?
To my family, especially my wife and children, for putting up with me all these years. Sports require sacrifices, you know. I’m often at camps or at practice, but they continue to support me, and that makes me give my best.
What advice would you give to young people?
Don’t stop fighting for your dreams. Nothing is impossible, as long as you give it your all.
